Happy Birthday Mommy !!!🎉☀️

Today is my mommy’s day ! Help me to wish her a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY !

I  don’t really know where to start when talking about my mom. She has been such a ray of sunshine in my life and we have come so far in our mother/daughter relationship and as a family! Her kind words & her smile has encouraged me more times than I can count. I have told people time and time again if I am unsure about having anyone else’s support in this world, I know for sure I have my mom’s. It took years for me and my mother to establish the close bond that we have today, have you ever heard that saying , GOOD THINGS TAKE TIME ?

I have learned a lot about my mother and myself through communicating with her and getting a better understanding of who she is and where she comes from. As much as I don’t like to admit it, because I want to be an “individual.” I can see a lot of my mother in myself, through my looks and some of my personality traits.

Fun Fact: My mom is the youngest of 10 siblings. Yep I have plenty of aunt’s, uncles, & cousins between both my mom and dad. Unfortunately I am closer with my mom, siblings,  and other family on my dad’s side. Family is just family you can’t force them to change or be something they are not. Just love them and pray for change !

My mother was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her favorite color is blue, but she really likes turquoise, she likes the hulk, she loves roses, she has 5 biological children, and she has a smile that can light up a room & brighten your day. ☀️

My mom moved quite a bit when she was young. Overall, I believe her upbringing, childhood, and life now is a very inspiring story and I am honored to be writing a biography on her life. (will be released 2018).

Fun fact: When I was in high school me & my mom had matching haircuts , and also at one point we both had blonde highlights.

Fun Fact: Me & my mom have a lot of our own inside jokes! A funny thing that we do sometimes is when we call each other we answer the phone using a different voice, and it’s hilarious when she’s like hello, like who is this ! Sometimes she falls for it , other times not so much . haha

As silly as that may sound, I believe life is all about cherishing those silly moment because once people are gone, you can never get those moments back all you will have is memories. So why not make great memories now ?

Over the years my mother and I have not just become closer, she has become my best friend, a person I trust to call me out when I’m “doing too much” and support and compliment me when I am sticking to my morals, pursuing my goals and living by the morals & lessons she has taught me. I love experiencing and sharing my life with her as my mother  and friend. She is such a beautiful person both outside and inside.

My mother even now continues  to be open-minded enough to improve her thinking and understanding on different things and is constantly trying to improve on being a better parent and grandparent. For this, I salute her and love her even more. I don’t think we realize (myself included) how important it is to continue to improve daily, we are all imperfect and have things we should improve on.

Fun fact: In this picture you can see that me and my mother have matching tattoos, I guess in a way you can say I will always carry a piece of my mother with me no matter where I go, and she will always carry a piece of me.

I am very grateful that my mother has taught me to follow my convictions. My mother has also taught me wrong is wrong, and there is no way around it. I continue to learn from my mother and for this I am thankful. I am glad I get the opportunity of having such a courageous, loving, silly, fun, and awesome woman I get to call my mother!

Mom, thank you so very much for all the jokes you’ve told, for your hugs, questions you asked, late night talks, all the words of encouragement you have given me, for your support, for the times you took care of me when I was sick and for the movie/junk food days we’ve had hahah.  Those Oreos! lol

Also thank you for always seeing me as a capable person who can get healing despite how the doctors have labeled me & how I have labeled myself. Know that you are appreciated and loved by God & by all the people who have gotten to know you! You are a ray of sunshine !  Continue to be a listening ear for others, a great-grandmother , mother, friend, and inspiration.

Happy Birthday to you my beautiful mother ! May God continue you to bless you and give you strength to overcome hardships and love unconditionally even when it seems impossible !

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Dad and me at church .. 2016

Today is a great day! It’s my dad’s birthday, so take a moment and help me wish my dad a huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY ! Let me start off by saying  happy birthday dad and I love you so much and I hope you get your steak you have been talking about !!!

I decided to kind of interview my dad for his birthday blog because I mean, why not ? There is plenty I don’t know about both my parents and the only way I will learn is by communicating /asking questions. So asking questions is exactly what I did. Which  happens to be one thing I  like to do! Also it’s interesting listening to people’s responses to random made up questions!

My Dad, Me, & My Uncle

My dad was born in Atlanta, GA but lived in places like Scottdale, GA and California. The two words my dad used to describe his upbringing were alright and hard. My dad has 6 brothers and 1 sister! BIG family huh? I have a lot of uncles and they are all so different from one another ! My dad & mother were married July of 1990.

My dad has 7* known biological kids in total ! Yes I have lots of siblings, and I wouldn’t have it any other way ! Each of my siblings  have their own specific personalities ! My sibling relationship is different with each of them. But overall I attempt to remain close to all of them and my dad does too in his own way. I have realized, different people have different ways they prefer to connect with one another, whether it’s calling one another three times a week, Skyping once a month, etc. All of us are different and connect with my dad differently !

My dad told me that his most fond memory is of him playing sports. If my info. is correct, my dad played little league football and football in high school. My dad has always seemed to be pretty athletic. He rides his bike, he runs, and most importantly he lifts ! I hope he can show me some workouts, I want to build some muscle up! As a child, I even remember my dad coaching little league football.

I was aware my dad had traveled, but I didn’t know where. So what do you do when you don’t know the answer to something? ……. Of course, you ask the question. My dad has traveled to Detroit, Ohio, California,Texas, Mexico, and Florida! Not sure if that’s all but those were some of the ones he named.

My dad’s favorite color is blue & he likes coffee!

I was interested in really seeing what my dad sees, based off the time he grew up in, so my next question was what were some of the differences between people who grew up when he was a kid and people growing up now? Guess what he said ?

He stated that people who grew up in his time had more respect for the elderly community.

This statement made me think about how times change, people change and priorities change. Now a days it seems like everyone thinks of themselves and that’s it. We are selfish. We could use more love in today’s society. So let’s MAKE SURE WE are doing OUR part and being loving , kind, and patient with others !

One of the last questions I asked my dad was if he could give a piece of advice to young people what would it be and why?

My dad’s reply was not really surprising to me, but I am glad he said it. He said ” first, get a relationship with God and second, get you a good education.” He continued and said”the reason he said these two things is because if you know God you will be alright, and you need an* education to survive in this world.”

 My Dad :

I think the biggest thing I have learned about my dad over the years is that he has a good sense of humor and like my mom says “He never meets a stranger.” Believe me when I tell you anytime we go into a store, a restaurant, etc 99.9% my dad, will start a conversation with a stranger. Not only that, but he seems to make just about anyone he meets smile or laugh. This is one of my favorite things about my dad, I aim to be like that. There is nothing like connecting with others, you never know what people are going through and how you can brighten their day with your actions.

I’ve also learned my dad loves to ask questions ! (ex. every time I talk to my dad, he asks me have I been exercising or when my upcoming book is going to be finished?) His questions pretty much hold me accountable, which I have learned to appreciate.

I think my dad is good at giving pep talks, I’m not even sure he realizes that’s what he is doing though. When I was working on my first book (Words Are Art: See The World Through My Eyes) one of the main things that really pushed me when I got into my depressive/mixed up funk was my dad asking me the question when will it be finished? At the time I was at a standstill with putting the book together and I was avoiding it, so it was really annoying to hear him ask me that EVERY TIME I talked to him during that time. But that question is what helped me to keep going, to know my dad was waiting for me to finish , to know he believed I could finish was an awesome thing!

Last but not least one of the biggest things I learned from my dad is that ironing jeans is a good idea! But my question is ,why iron when we have a dryer dad ? I know the dryer doesn’t put the crease in the jeans, right ? haha

Just about if not everytime I talk to my dad on the phone, Skype, or in person I smile or laugh at some corny joke he makes. He is one of the most lively, goofy people you will ever meet (that is if you ever meet him). I am so blessed and thankful I get to call this awesome man my dad !

Dad and me casual

I love you so much dad, thanks for letting me interview you and get to know you better over the years. Keep telling your corny jokes, keep making people laugh, keep an open heart and an open mind, keep giving me all the pep talks, and asking me 500 questions especially the famous question (when will the book be finished?) every time we talk, hahah ! Dad you are really a one of a kind!

Happy birthday dad ! I hope you have a great day and I look forward to seeing you again soon !
