Redefining Art, Bad Habits, and a Survey

Hello my beautiful subscribers & readers, how has everyone been ? Busy I am sure, getting things done and living.

I noticed days ago that I have not blogged in about a month, how sad is that ? Well for me it’s very sad. Writing is my love, it’s one of the ways I live, express myself and embrace living. The more I skip blogging not only am I more stressed, but it seemed to get  easier  for me to keep not doing it. Bad habits are so easy to form, but even harder to break, have you noticed that ?

I have been learning and attempting to take in so much new information in school and I’ve been writing in my notebooks but avoiding blogging. Isn’t it weird the things we notice ourselves doing? Unfortunately, by the time we catch the problem it’s so far gone that by that time, we’ve formed a new bad habit.

Today I decided to dive right back into blogging, and forgive myself that I haven’t blogged for a month. I have experienced quite a bit in the last few weeks, so let me fill you in. Lots of homework that is for sure and writing nonfiction papers ( my favorite)! I also got to see a new even bigger fair than the one I showed you all in a blog previously, it was cool but involved lots of walking! I also switched a few things in my upcoming memoir that I think will really help readers get a better perspective of what I have experienced. I’ve tried some new vegan restaurants, went snorkeling, traveled to catalina island, and one of the best things of all I got to visit my family this past weekend and it was so nice to get time with my mommy.  Things have been so sad and busy for me lately I am so thankful I was able to take a few days to go visit! It is always necessary to take time to BREATHE and eat some vegan food! haha My mom officially loves kombucha now! Have you ever tried kombucha? Or heard of it? If so, do you like it?

I have been reading this book titled Artisan Soul for my Christianity and Creative Processing class. Have you ever read it? If not you should. The author Erwin McManus is an amazing writer. In this book,  McManus brings up some really good points that have inspired me to write not only because we were required to for homework, 😅 but because it spoke to me. Below I shared two quotes I picked out and responded to.

Artisan Soul: Page 3 “No matter where we are, we live in a world of artists.”

A lot of time we don’t realize that, we are more creative than we give ourselves credit for. Everyone is an artist in their own way. When people hear the word artist, most of us immediately think of a person doing some type of art. People don’t seem to consider how much we create to handle everyday situations. We create problems, solutions, questions, ideas, etc. Not everyone is a painter, dancer, actor, writer, etc. but we all create. This statement furthered my definition and outlook of what an artist is. I realized creating makes you an artist. Create opportunities to spread love. Create new ways to look at a common issue. Create a new way to define something. Creating is what having an artisan soul is all about.

Have you ever thought about what “art” is to you? Do you believe you are an artist & you create?

This class has been so eye-opening. It really has challenged me to want to create more, approach art with a new set of eyes, and it has helped me to redefine what creativity and art can be.

It was so good to finally blog ! Don’t worry, you will hear from me soon, lord’s willing! Below find some pictures of me and my family from this past weekend !

In the meantime I am doing a project and I would love to hear feedback! If you didn’t receive the Mental Health Awareness survey in your email please help me out and take the survey by clicking the word 👉🏽 Awareness 👈🏽!

Have an amazing Wednesday ! ☀️❤️ Be blessed & find a reason to smile today !

Visiting Familiar and Unfamiliar Places (Part V)

We got back from Ohio on a Sunday evening. I was pretty tired from a long weekend, so I slept a good amount on the way back to my parent’s home. The following day on Monday me & my mom decided to go to the World of Coca-Cola!

I hadn’t been to the world of Coca – Cola for a long time, so I was beyond excited to go on an adventure here !🤓😎❤️

Before actually going to buy our tickets, I decided to take a few moments, enjoy the view and take some fun pictures. Afterall,  this place was beautiful. There were museums, the aquarium, statues, the world of coke, and probably other things I didn’t notice in this huge park like location.

Fun Fact Below!

When I first walked up to the ticket window, I was glad there wasn’t a long line! It always seems when going to places on weekdays there is less of a crowd. Have you ever noticed different places being less crowded on weekdays?

I was just happy to be there and even more excited to go in ! While walking in I took photos and noticed how so many things seemed different. Despite the fact I had been here before, this place looked unfamiliar to me.

When we first walked into the World of Coke, we all were led to this room filled with different decorated coke bottles, along with a huge timer hanging on the wall. Some of the below pictures show exactly what I saw, while in “the waiting room.”

I took a picture of these maps because they were made in a variety of languages for people traveling from all over the world to visit The World of Coca-Cola.

One of the next things I noticed was that they were giving away FREE coca-colas !!!! YAY!!! They were not only giving them away for free but they had choices ! Bet you can’t guess which one I tried ? Have you tried any of these? Personally, I am not a coke drinker, but if you’re visiting The World of Coca-Cola how can you not drink some coke? Isn’t that the whole point of visiting THE WORLD OF COCA-COLA?

Different Types of Coca- Cola

Yep you guessed it, I chose the green one! I’m sure I picked this one because it was made with cane sugar and more importantly the can was green, and green happens to be one of my favorite colors !

After grabbing my Coca-Cola Life and putting it in my back pocket I waited for the timer to finish counting down until the next show started ! I looked around and continued to take in my surroundings, and continued to think about how everything seemed different.

img_6330.jpg

These pants were in the first room we were in after the timer went off ! There were some really neat and old things in this room! I thought these pants were funny looking, but at the same time kind of cute ! Would you wear them? Maybe as pajamas right ?

After this room and a movie of amazing moments that involved coca-cola, me and my mom kind of did our own thing. We had some great laughs especially in the 4-d theater they had. Something actually stabbed me in the back, and IT HURT! We continued walking around exploring the different exhibits and some of the amazingly decorated coca-cola bottles they had. Such great creativity!

The color pink has really started to grow on me ! I found this bottle one of the most beautiful! It has just the right touch of pink and white! Such beauty . What do you think?

Coca-Cola Factory 2017

I thought this bottle was simple yet cool ! Not really sure if I was supposed to be leaning on it ! But it was a great work of art, and as you can see it was HUGE !

As we continued our adventure through The World of Coca-Cola, we found more interesting and fun things. We even saw the polar bear character! It is unfortunate I didn’t get any pictures with the bear ! But I did get some other pictures, like mirrors on ceilings, other Coca- Cola products, and even videos!

“The Vault.” It is said that behind the below picture, there is  a vault where the secret formula for Coca-Cola is. When they said this, guess what ? I didn’t really believe them, I don’t think they would put something that important in a building where so many people come and tour. The actual vault looked a little fake to me, but then again who really knows where the secret to the Coca-Cola formula is …. What do you believe ? Do you think it’s actually there?

Our adventure in The World of Coca- Cola was going great, that was until we went into the tasting room and that is where everything went downhill ! Unfortunately, I have not finished up the vlog that I took while in the tasting room ! It will be posted soon in a future blog ! This adventure was definitely another highlight of my 2017 summer vacation ! YAY!!!!!!!

Oh and just as a side note I did try the Coca-Cola Life after we left The World of Coca- Cola and it was okay, it didn’t taste like it had as much sugar as regular coke.

This travel series has been interesting to write and I am glad I wrote about memories that I can go back and read about whenever.  I am sad, but excited to be ending my travel series, for now that is. In the meantime I’ll be starting on new projects/blogs, getting adjusted to my new school and new town, and working on releasing my book in the next few weeks !  Stay tuned & thanks so much for reading this series !

Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end. Seneca

Happy Birthday Mommy !!!🎉☀️

Today is my mommy’s day ! Help me to wish her a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY !

I  don’t really know where to start when talking about my mom. She has been such a ray of sunshine in my life and we have come so far in our mother/daughter relationship and as a family! Her kind words & her smile has encouraged me more times than I can count. I have told people time and time again if I am unsure about having anyone else’s support in this world, I know for sure I have my mom’s. It took years for me and my mother to establish the close bond that we have today, have you ever heard that saying , GOOD THINGS TAKE TIME ?

Mother Coca-Cola Factory 2017

I have learned a lot about my mother and myself through communicating with her and getting a better understanding of who she is and where she comes from. As much as I don’t like to admit it, because I want to be an “individual.” I can see a lot of my mother in myself, through my looks and some of my personality traits.

Fun Fact: My mom is the youngest of 10 siblings. Yep I have plenty of aunt’s, uncles, & cousins between both my mom and dad. Unfortunately I am closer with my mom, siblings,  and other family on my dad’s side. Family is just family you can’t force them to change or be something they are not. Just love them and pray for change !

Mom and Tasha Coca- Cola Factory 2017

My mother was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. Her favorite color is blue, but she really likes turquoise, she likes the hulk, she loves roses, she has 5 biological children, and she has a smile that can light up a room & brighten your day. ☀️

img_6323-1.jpg

My mom moved quite a bit when she was young. Overall, I believe her upbringing, childhood, and life now is a very inspiring story and I am honored to be writing a biography on her life. (will be released 2018).

Fun fact: When I was in high school me & my mom had matching haircuts , and also at one point we both had blonde highlights.

Fun Fact: Me & my mom have a lot of our own inside jokes! A funny thing that we do sometimes is when we call each other we answer the phone using a different voice, and it’s hilarious when she’s like hello, like who is this ! Sometimes she falls for it , other times not so much . haha

As silly as that may sound, I believe life is all about cherishing those silly moment because once people are gone, you can never get those moments back all you will have is memories. So why not make great memories now ?

Over the years my mother and I have not just become closer, she has become my best friend, a person I trust to call me out when I’m “doing too much” and support and compliment me when I am sticking to my morals, pursuing my goals and living by the morals & lessons she has taught me. I love experiencing and sharing my life with her as my mother  and friend. She is such a beautiful person both outside and inside.

My mother even now continues  to be open-minded enough to improve her thinking and understanding on different things and is constantly trying to improve on being a better parent and grandparent. For this, I salute her and love her even more. I don’t think we realize (myself included) how important it is to continue to improve daily, we are all imperfect and have things we should improve on.

Fun fact: In this picture you can see that me and my mother have matching tattoos, I guess in a way you can say I will always carry a piece of my mother with me no matter where I go, and she will always carry a piece of me.

I am very grateful that my mother has taught me to follow my convictions. My mother has also taught me wrong is wrong, and there is no way around it. I continue to learn from my mother and for this I am thankful. I am glad I get the opportunity of having such a courageous, loving, silly, fun, and awesome woman I get to call my mother!

Mom, thank you so very much for all the jokes you’ve told, for your hugs, questions you asked, late night talks, all the words of encouragement you have given me, for your support, for the times you took care of me when I was sick and for the movie/junk food days we’ve had hahah.  Those Oreos! lol

Also thank you for always seeing me as a capable person who can get healing despite how the doctors have labeled me & how I have labeled myself. Know that you are appreciated and loved by God & by all the people who have gotten to know you! You are a ray of sunshine !  Continue to be a listening ear for others, a great-grandmother , mother, friend, and inspiration.

Happy Birthday to you my beautiful mother ! May God continue you to bless you and give you strength to overcome hardships and love unconditionally even when it seems impossible !

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Dad and me at church .. 2016

Today is a great day! It’s my dad’s birthday, so take a moment and help me wish my dad a huge HAPPY BIRTHDAY ! Let me start off by saying  happy birthday dad and I love you so much and I hope you get your steak you have been talking about !!!

I decided to kind of interview my dad for his birthday blog because I mean, why not ? There is plenty I don’t know about both my parents and the only way I will learn is by communicating /asking questions. So asking questions is exactly what I did. Which  happens to be one thing I  like to do! Also it’s interesting listening to people’s responses to random made up questions!

Dad, me and uncle in church 2016

My Dad, Me, & My Uncle

My dad was born in Atlanta, GA but lived in places like Scottdale, GA and California. The two words my dad used to describe his upbringing were alright and hard. My dad has 6 brothers and 1 sister! BIG family huh? I have a lot of uncles and they are all so different from one another ! My dad & mother were married July of 1990.

My dad has 7* known biological kids in total ! Yes I have lots of siblings, and I wouldn’t have it any other way ! Each of my siblings  have their own specific personalities ! My sibling relationship is different with each of them. But overall I attempt to remain close to all of them and my dad does too in his own way. I have realized, different people have different ways they prefer to connect with one another, whether it’s calling one another three times a week, Skyping once a month, etc. All of us are different and connect with my dad differently !

My dad told me that his most fond memory is of him playing sports. If my info. is correct, my dad played little league football and football in high school. My dad has always seemed to be pretty athletic. He rides his bike, he runs, and most importantly he lifts ! I hope he can show me some workouts, I want to build some muscle up! As a child, I even remember my dad coaching little league football.

I was aware my dad had traveled, but I didn’t know where. So what do you do when you don’t know the answer to something? ……. Of course, you ask the question. My dad has traveled to Detroit, Ohio, California,Texas, Mexico, and Florida! Not sure if that’s all but those were some of the ones he named.

My dad’s favorite color is blue & he likes coffee!

Dad and me at church

I was interested in really seeing what my dad sees, based off the time he grew up in, so my next question was what were some of the differences between people who grew up when he was a kid and people growing up now? Guess what he said ?

He stated that people who grew up in his time had more respect for the elderly community.

This statement made me think about how times change, people change and priorities change. Now a days it seems like everyone thinks of themselves and that’s it. We are selfish. We could use more love in today’s society. So let’s MAKE SURE WE are doing OUR part and being loving , kind, and patient with others !

One of the last questions I asked my dad was if he could give a piece of advice to young people what would it be and why?

My dad’s reply was not really surprising to me, but I am glad he said it. He said ” first, get a relationship with God and second, get you a good education.” He continued and said”the reason he said these two things is because if you know God you will be alright, and you need an* education to survive in this world.”

Dad & Tasha 1

 My Dad :

I think the biggest thing I have learned about my dad over the years is that he has a good sense of humor and like my mom says “He never meets a stranger.” Believe me when I tell you anytime we go into a store, a restaurant, etc 99.9% my dad, will start a conversation with a stranger. Not only that, but he seems to make just about anyone he meets smile or laugh. This is one of my favorite things about my dad, I aim to be like that. There is nothing like connecting with others, you never know what people are going through and how you can brighten their day with your actions.

I’ve also learned my dad loves to ask questions ! (ex. every time I talk to my dad, he asks me have I been exercising or when my upcoming book is going to be finished?) His questions pretty much hold me accountable, which I have learned to appreciate.

I think my dad is good at giving pep talks, I’m not even sure he realizes that’s what he is doing though. When I was working on my first book (Words Are Art: See The World Through My Eyes) one of the main things that really pushed me when I got into my depressive/mixed up funk was my dad asking me the question when will it be finished? At the time I was at a standstill with putting the book together and I was avoiding it, so it was really annoying to hear him ask me that EVERY TIME I talked to him during that time. But that question is what helped me to keep going, to know my dad was waiting for me to finish , to know he believed I could finish was an awesome thing!

Last but not least one of the biggest things I learned from my dad is that ironing jeans is a good idea! But my question is ,why iron when we have a dryer dad ? I know the dryer doesn’t put the crease in the jeans, right ? haha

Just about if not everytime I talk to my dad on the phone, Skype, or in person I smile or laugh at some corny joke he makes. He is one of the most lively, goofy people you will ever meet (that is if you ever meet him). I am so blessed and thankful I get to call this awesome man my dad !

Dad and me casual

I love you so much dad, thanks for letting me interview you and get to know you better over the years. Keep telling your corny jokes, keep making people laugh, keep an open heart and an open mind, keep giving me all the pep talks, and asking me 500 questions especially the famous question (when will the book be finished?) every time we talk, hahah ! Dad you are really a one of a kind!

Happy birthday dad ! I hope you have a great day and I look forward to seeing you again soon !

Visiting Familiar and Unfamiliar Places (Part IV)

🚗 Road-trips are usually pretty interesting!  I guess the more people you have in the car, the more interesting it may be. I’ve been on road-trips to Los Angeles, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Nevada , Mexico, and other parts of Socal and now Ohio. I was pretty sleepy before we got on the road, but I didn’t sleep too much. I am sure, one of the main reasons I didn’t sleep much is because I decided to drink an energy drink when we first got on the road. On the trip up we laughed, enjoyed different types of music, and napped in between. In total it took us about 9 hours total to get to Ohio. We made more than a few stops for one thing or another, on the drive. We arrived to Cincinnati Ohio Thursday evening got to our hotel rooms, got ready for dinner and we went into town. We ended up settling on a restaurant, I’ve never heard before. It was called Cheddar’s.

Cheddar's Entrance

Honestly they didn’t seem to have much on the menu that I could actually eat . The best thing I ate at Cheddar’s was the steamed broccoli! Me & my family enjoyed one another talking, laughing, taking pictures, and just spending time together . It is so nice to spend time with family and put electronic devices away !!!! Connecting with one another in person face to face is priceless !

img_6247-1.jpg

This beautiful waterfall was at the entrance of Cheddar’s.

Friday seemed to end as quickly as it started ! Is it just me or do days seem to go by faster when on vacation? Friday morning, we got up and went to breakfast at a place called Bob Evans, ever heard of it ? (Click on name for more info) If you are in Ohio it’s a must eat ! Their biscuits were really good ! The food was delicious, better than cheddar’s because there was more options for me ! I love breakfast food ! 🥞

After a delicious breakfast at Bob Evans we traveled to one of the outlets to shop and do some looking around !

The next couple of hours passed by quickly and before we knew it, it was time for the family meet and greet ! This was a fun time for me , I got to reconnect with family I haven’t seen in years and connect with family members I don’t remember ever meeting. We all ate, prayed, laughed and talked ! It was a fun night and by the end of it, I was tired but I still had homework to do. YAY FOR SUMMER CLASSES !!!!  Once I was back at the hotel room,  I believe I watched a little bit of one of my favorite movies of all time, The Lord of  The Rings. I think it was the fellowship of the ring, but I can’t be 100% sure, I was so tired that night.  All I remember seeing is a few of the main characters! As I’m sure you have realized reading this, I was watching a movie and worried about sleep, so yeah I didn’t spend much time on  my homework that night.

Saturday finally arrived and it was the day of  THE FAMILY REUNION !

View At Family Reunion 2017 Cincinnati, Ohio

View of Lake at Family Reunion

We arrived at the family reunion in the afternoon and the weather seemed to be  getting pretty hot ! We ate, we took pictures, we laughed, and most importantly we talked and enjoyed one another’s company ! As the day progressed in Ohio, the temperature seemed to cool down enough for me to sit outside, talk with family, and enjoy the weather. I had a good time and laughed a lot on this whole trip! It was good that I got the opportunity to make it to the reunion this year to spend time with family! I was nervous yet thankful to be able to, not only connect with  family  but talk about my book Words Are Art: See The World Through My Eyes .

I have learned while on this journey of being a writer, an author, my work isn’t for everyone and everyone isn’t going to connect with it or even like it. At first this was a struggle to accept, I wanted everyone to like my work. But I realized we are all individuals, we all have our own struggles, our own journey and our own taste of what we like and what we don’t like.

With that being said, I would like to take a moment and  say how thankful I am for all the people with open hearts and open minds, who  purchased & read Words Are Art. When Words Are Art: See The World Through My Eyes was first released I was nervous because I released some of my journey to others. I was afraid of what others may say about some of the intense writings that I decided to put into this book. At first I was pretty self-conscious about it, then as time moved on my goal for releasing something like Words Are Art seemed clearer, inspire & motivate.

I hoped that through my pain, my hurt, my loss, my misery, my depression, and even my discovery of new beautiful things, others could find a way to know that if they were going through some of the same feelings/things they were not alone. Then for others who weren’t going through it, it would give them a new outlook on those things, so they can become more informed.

Releasing Words Are Art let others  get a glimpse into how I see the world, and some of my experiences good and bad. I am so grateful I was able to write this book and for all the people who have told me how inspiring Words Are Art was for them. I hope that my upcoming books can be inspiring, motivating, and so much MORE.

Simple Times …

Sibling PhotoCan we just go back to more simple times ? When all I had to worry about was what I’m wearing to school and getting A’s so I could get more allowance money ! I miss you dra aka chop chop 💕& I love you bro.

Gosh I’m sure not the perfect sister that I wish I can be. Sometimes life overwhelms me and I forget to answer your messages and I am not always able to be there for you like I want to be, but just know that I have your back and when I’m able to I will do anything to make sure you succeed and have what you need ! Geez life has kicked us, separated us from one another, knocked us down and just beat us until we were bloody & bruised. But we rose above it, we stayed close despite everything we’ve been through as a family & as siblings. People on the outside looking in have no idea where we’ve been and what we’ve been through. They can all keep their opinions to themselves. It’s unneeded. I love you to the moon 🌙 and back ! I didn’t forget you ! Can’t wait to see you again !

OHANA means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten.  ~Lilo & Stitch

I know every family has it’s problems, but I admire those that stick together. ~Unknown Author

I am talking to myself also when I say this but please do not get so wrapped up in your own life that you can’t even take a few moments to call, skype, or even text your loved ones! If you have a bad memory and forget to call then set a reminder on your phone to remind you. It’s so ridiculous, we can spend hours on social media and doing other senseless things but we can’t find time to call our parents, siblings, grandparents, or close friends? I don’t get it ! It makes me ask the question what is really important to you in this life? People can’t be replaced, family is family ! Connect with and love them NOW while they are alive and you are able to build a relationship and memories with them because once they are gone , THEY ARE JUST GONE and there is nothing we can do about it ! Cherish your time with your loved ones now, build a relationship, grow with one another, uplift and support one another ! After all what is life without love and connection with others?

❤️ Love God & Love People ❤️

Be blessed ! Thanks for reading!

Visiting Familiar and Unfamiliar Places (Part II)

The longer I’m here visiting my family the more I begin to realize how little I actually really know about them and just life in general. I think one of my biggest flaws is thinking I know more than I do based solely off my interpretation of a situation. Silly me. I think a lot of times as humans we do this, some of us more than others. It is really a bad habit in my opinion. Realizing and coming to grip with this flaw has made me realize I have so much to learn and so much I need to be open enough to grow on.

Lately, I have been out and about spending time with family, attending my parent’s church, discovering new shows and eating random junk food. Overall, I am very thankful to be here with family. I’ve already had a few adventures and lack of sleep has seemed to already catch up with me ! I’ve gotten to see my brother who I haven’t seen in about two years, and we stayed up talking until like 4 a.m. knowing we had to be up that morning for church by 10 a.m. ! After I finally did go to bed, after sleeping for 6 hours I woke up and to my horror my voice was hoarse from laughing so much. It was not a good feeling. I could talk for the most part, but I couldn’t sing 🎶 while getting ready for church. 😶 Anyone that knows me knows how much I enjoy singing randomly throughout my day. As the day went on my throat started feeling better and now almost two weeks later, my voice feels pretty much back to normal, thank God. Despite that happening I can still say I definitely miss those long night “family talks.”

As I continue to spend time here on the east coast in this very humid and hot weather with my loved ones, I am sure I will continue to learn and explore new things, meet and spend time with family, see old friends and just enjoy my time here! ❤️☀️🎉✈️

My Grandma & Me – It feels like it has been forever since I got to see my Grammy! It’s always such a pleasure to spend time with her, she loves to giggle and seems to really enjoy people coming to visit her ! ❤️ She will be 91 this November !❤️🎉😍
